What Playquire collects when you use the site, why, and what you can do about it. The short version: as little as running a website allows, and nothing is sold.
What we collect and why
- Server and security logs. The site sits behind Cloudflare, which sees your IP address, browser and the pages you request in order to protect the site and deliver it faster. Our own web server keeps short-lived access logs for the same reasons. Logs are used for security and troubleshooting only and are deleted on a rolling schedule.
- Page view counts. A counter records that a story was read, not who read it. A small cookie stops one visit being counted twice within a day. No advertising or analytics profile is built.
- The contact form. Your name, email address and message are sent to the desk by email so a person can reply, and kept as long as the conversation needs. When the bot check is enabled, Cloudflare Turnstile runs on the page to tell a person from a script.
- The newsletter. Your email address goes to Brevo, the service that sends The Quire, and is used only to send it. Every issue has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list.
- Push notifications. If you opt in, OneSignal stores a token for your browser or device so it can deliver the alerts you chose. Turning notifications off in your browser removes it.
- Saved articles, reminders and your theme choice. These live in your own browser’s storage and never leave it. Clearing your browser data clears them.
Cookies and storage
Playquire sets no advertising cookies. The cookies and browser storage in use are the view-count cookie above, the security cookies Cloudflare needs, the bot check on the contact page when it is enabled, the login cookies for staff, and the local storage entries for saved articles and your light or dark preference.
Embedded content
Stories may embed video and posts from YouTube, X, Bluesky and similar services, and some pages offer Google’s preferred-source button. Those services may set their own cookies when you interact with the embed, under their own privacy policies.
Affiliate links
Some shop links carry an affiliate tag so that the shop can pay a commission on a sale. The tag identifies Playquire, not you; what the shop collects is under its own policy. See the affiliate disclosure.
Sharing and selling
We do not sell or rent personal data. It is shared only with the services named above, each of which processes it to provide that service, and where the law requires.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and withdraw consent for the newsletter or notifications at any time. Use the contact form, or the unsubscribe and notification controls described above. We answer within a month.
Children
The site is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
This policy changes when the site does. The updated date on this page shows the current version.
